Copy style

Copy the look you carefully set up and paste it onto something else. The text and the photo stay as they are — only the look moves.

  • When do I use it? When you need the same look several times — row labels in a table, section headings repeated on page after page.
  • Where is it? Right-click an element and pick [Copy style] · [Paste style].

When you're building the same look over and over

Picking the color and matching the size one by one takes a while, and it's easy to end up with one that doesn't match. Set up the first one, then copy the look onto the rest.

  1. Set up one element the way you want it
  2. Right-click it and choose [Copy style]
    • The shortcut is ⌘⌥C.
  3. Select everything you want to match, all at once
    • Hold Shift and click to add them one by one.
  4. Right-click the selection and choose [Paste style]
    • The shortcut is ⌘⌥V. Everything you picked changes in one go.
info

Pasting moves the look only. The text, the photo, and the position stay where they are.

Example 1 — Moving a text look

Copy the style from the first item, then select the other three together and paste once
Set up the first item, then select the other three together and finish with one \[Paste style]

Good for text that has to match line by line, like the row labels in a table. Change the color of the first label, copy the style, then select the other three together and paste — they all match in one go.

Example 2 — Moving a shape look

Set the color on one shape, then select the others and paste the style
Set the color on one shape, then select the rest and finish with a single paste

Use it for shapes you need several of, like badges or boxes. Set one up with the color and border you want, then select the others together and paste.

Example 3 — Moving photo adjustments

Copy the adjustment applied to one photo and paste it onto another
Adjust one photo, then paste the same adjustment onto the rest

Especially handy for matching brightness and tone across several photos. Adjust one, copy it, and paste onto the rest. The preset and the fine adjustments you picked in [Edit Image] → [Image adjustments] travel together.
